Why are there separate privacy policies for Rakuten Group companies defined as "we" and other group companies, instead of having a single policy?
As the Rakuten Group offers wide variety of services, ranging from e-commerce to credit card service, matching service to name a few, the types of personal information retained vary, and so do the levels of their sensitivity.
If we set a single privacy policy we will be overlooking such a diversity of data that requires specific protection measures depending on its attributes and sensitivity.
Our answer has been to hybridize "shared use" and allowing some group companies to maintain their own privacy policy.
While "joint use" group companies are defined as "We," under the Privacy Policy, non-joint-use group companies such as Rakuten Card Co., Ltd., Rakuten Securities,Inc. and companies with non-Japanese jurisdiction maintain their independent privacy policies to follow specific requirement by the industry or jurisdiction they belong to, and information items they collect.
